The Effects of Song Psychotherapy using movie soundtracks on Self-Esteem and Ego-Resilience of Children in Low-income Families

|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of song psychotherapy activity using movie soundtracks on self esteem and ego-resilience of children in low-income families. The song psychotherapy activity has been applied by the choice of the movie soundtracks preferred by the children and include technique such as listening, singing, discussing lyrics and writing a song(lyrics and melodies). The participants of this study were 14 children in low-income families from H community child center in Seoul. Out of 14 participants, 7 were randomly assigned into an experimental group and other 7 into a control group in order to execute song psychotherapy in Pretest-Posttest Control-Group Design method. The SPSS 20.0 program was utilized for data analysis of the result of following tests: Mann-Whitney U test, Ranked ANCOVA, and Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks. According to the study result, song psychotherapy activity using movie soundtracks has significantly improved the children's self-esteem and ego-resilience from low-income families. Also this study suggest that the song psychotherapy activity using movie soundtrack is an effective method to improve self-esteem and ego-resilience of children in low-income families. This study has contributed to expand the range of music resources that are applied to song psychotherapy which is substantial result.
